Evaluation
Our target for this project was to create a viral advertising campaign for a new tv sitcom or drama aimed at a specific taget audience. I worked in a group with three other girls and I believe we worked very well together.
At the end of the project, our final outcome was a series of campaign posters, two viral teaser clips and social network pages all advertising out new TV drama called ‘Mannequins’. I am very pleased with what we created as a group and if we wanted we could progress this further into a actual mini drama series.
Through out our project I think we worked well as a team, we had regualar team meetings to discuss what we have achieved so far, and what still need to be achieved, this helped us stay on track to meet our final goal. We regually kept in contact as a group through a facebook group we created, this meant we could easily discuss issues easily as a group without being in the same room. We could also keep in contact with our tutor, client and other peers for feedback and help to make us move forward in our project. We took turns to take control and responsibilty to order the equipment we needed for the week, we usually hired these through the facebook group page to make it easier, by doing this we began to develop our leadership skills.
As a group we faced some problems, as throughout the project we were joined by two new people. We then had to rethink the roles within the group and distribute the work load evenly so it was fair on everyone. Gaining new group members also meant the workload was less on everyone and we generate more ideas to our project. We also gained more skills as everyone brought a new skills to the group that we used as a stregth in our project. When deciding the roles within the group we decided to use everyone’s strengths in our favour, but also wanted to experience and develop new skills in this project aswell. We began to all do a little bit of everything within the group this meant we learnt and developed new skills like photography, editing, lighting, directing and acting.
We tried to meet as many requirements of the brief as we could, we constantly referred to the brief and had regualar meetings as a group and with our tutor to discuss issues from the brief. If we found ourself straying away from the brief we did things to correct this and get back on track. I think our final outcome definitely met the brief requirements as we created a new tv drama that appeals to a younger demographic of 16-35 yr olds. We then implemented a viral advertising campaign through posters, logos, teaser clips, photoshoots and social networking sites like; facebook, tumblr, youtube and twitter.
We tried our best to reach all the timescales, at the start of our project we created a time schedule of what we should get done by when so we could keep on target. We faced a few difficulities as sometimes group members would be away which meant somethings had to be prosponed or other group member would had to take on extra roles which slowed down the production schedule. We tried our best to keep on track by attended extra workshop on our free days to catch up work, or staying behind a little longer. We managed to get everything in on time and we are very happy with what we had produced. If we did have any longer to complete this project I think we would develop our poster campaign more to make the message of our TV drama even stronger and create more teaser clips to make awareness of our advertising campaign even more.
When doing our advertising campaign we didnt need any finance, we hired all of our technical equipment like a camera, lighting, tripod and props from college to cut down on costs. We did our own makeup and hair for our photoshoots and our costumes were all our own so we could reflect our own personalitlies through what we wore. We decided to star in our own campaign so we didnt have to rely on lots of other people and the cost of paying them. We had a ten pound budget but didnt need to spend any of it in the end. We hired two male models that were under the age of 18 so they had to sign contributor release forms to ask there permission to use there pictures in our campaign.
When we released our final teaser clips we used a scene of someone ‘snorting’ what was meant to be cocaine we didnt know if this would be acceptable to advertising as the model looked very young and it might reflect the wrong message to some people. We refrained from uploading the teaser clip until we had spoken to Ofcom the regulatory body to check it was okay. They came back to use and said that it wasnt acceptable to use the whole shot as it showed the model pretending to sort it up her nose. We had to edit the clip so it didnt show this, It meant the clip was shorten.
We recieved positive feedback on our teaser clips with one of our teaser clips having over 200 views and 6 likes. One comment from a viewer saying ” Good Work Guys”. On our facebook page we have 25 likes from people all supporting our work and we have been tweeted by people on twitter. This had all helped strengthen our advertising campaign.
I think we succed in this project, I think we followed all the requirements in the brief and we are all very proud of our final outcome. I think we worked very well as a group and I would definietly work with the same people in a further project. I developed skills in photography, Photoshop, and my skills in working within a group.
